LAS Study Abroad Social Media

I ran the Instagram account for The College of Liberal Arts and Sciences Study Abroad for the 22/23 academic year. The goal of the Study Abroad social media was to increase student awareness and interest in LAS Study Abroad programs. Because the LAS department was a newer, smaller department that other study abroad offices, I worked with the challenge of creating more awareness of LAS programs amidst several more recognized departments. 

 

I approached the challenge by considering how I could create unique, helpful content that students would only find on our account. Overtime, I found the most success in content where I collaborated directly with a student abroad, including story takeovers, day-in-the-life Reels, and information series posts. I focused on metrics like shares and impressions from non-followers to gage how well posts were reaching new students.

During the time I ran LAS Study Abroad Instagram, it gained about 100 followers (largely ISU students), and I created a database of helpful posts about each of the LAS programs. Each of the highlights leads to all the posts about that location/program.

Additionally, I enjoyed working to create a more visually appealing feed through existing photo selection, collaborating with students abroad, and creating new templates for information posts that incorporates photos with graphics.
